California Adult Schools FAQ

Q. How do I enroll?
A. First find the California Adult School nearest you (see above) and either visit the school’s websites or contact the school by phone.

Q. How much do classes cost?

A. You can enroll in the vast majority of classes for a small fee, usually $10 to $25. Some job training courses and self-improvement classes have higher fees. Fees at California Adult Schools are often a fraction of those charged by private, for-profit job training schools.

Q. Is financial aid available?
A. Many schools have resources to assists students with fee and tuition. Contact a California Adult School near you for specifics.

Q. How old do I have to be to attend a California Adult School?
A. Most—but not all—classes require students to be past high school age.

Q. What about textbooks?
A. For the most part, books and materials are provided free by California Adult Schools. There are exceptions, however, depending on the course of study.

Q. Should I get a GED or a HS Diploma?
A. That answer can only be provided by an adult school counselor. Using our “California Adult School Finder Map” locate schools near you and phone for an appointment.

Q. How long will it take to get my high school diploma at an adult school?

A. That, of course, depends on the coursework and credits already completed. In some cases, job and life experiences are accepted for credit toward a diploma. Contact a diploma counselor at a California Adult School near you.

Q. Do adult schools offer childcare?

A. Yes, many California Adult Schools offer excellent daycare for children of students in certain programs. Contact your local adult school for specific information (link to map and/or schools list)
