ACSA's 2010 Adult Ed Conference

Want to find out how Moodle and Twitter are changing the delivery of adult education programs in California? Need help getting through your first year as an administrator?

Attend ACSA’s annual Adult Education Conference for 2010 (September 29-October 1 at the Doubletree hotel in Sacramento), which will focus on the theme “Creating the New Adult School: Focus + Connections = Impact.”

During this year’s program, new and experienced adult educators from around the state will hear the latest on the new strategic plan for adult education, reauthorization, technology and virtual learning, distance learning, Professional Learning Communities, use of Workforce Investment Boards, and state legislation.

Technology sessions will include presentations by vendor/practitioner pairs, including GED Online, OdysseyWare, Ingles Ya!, EASY, Lexia and others. 

Administrators new to Adult Education will have an opportunity to attend an invaluable preconference workshop, “How Do I Get Through the First Year?" (Wednesday, September 29).  Examples of topics include Guides for Compliance, Introduction of Key Adult School Projects and Support Services to Adult Schools; Developing Budgets; Credentialing Issues, Professional Development, Resources, and Brainstorming Solutions to New Problems. 

The lineup of keynote speakers, panelists and breakout moderators includes:
•    Debra Jones, adult education administrator, CDE
•    Joan Polster, CSCAE board member and education consultant
•    Marian Thacher, director, OTAN
•    John Fleischman, Sacramento County Office of Education
•    Jacques LaCour, Oakland USD
•    Mariann Fedele, CALPRO

During Friday’s closing session, participants will be encouraged to review what they have learned at the conference and to answer these questions:
•    What will my school look like in the future?
•    How do I get there? 

Facilitators will lead help participants take the conference home and make an impact in their schools and communities.

Registration rates are:
•    $330 for members including the New Administrators Preconference Workshop on Wednesday
•    $300 for members if not attending Wednesday
•    Non members please add $200 to these rates
